Welcome...

...to the future roots podcast page... featuring past and future forms of funk, soul, and jazz... from gil scott to jill scott... I'm trying to keep my 'casts between 30-45 minutes for easy downloading... each month I'll also try to do a 'focus on' where I develop a theme and illustrate it with my selections... Please check the Archive (at left) for older shows.

Setlist

The Dave Pike Set : Mathar

This tune still sounds as if it were written yesterday, and gets people asking me about it whenever I play it.

Stolen Identity : Argentina

I'm not sure where the drum loop was sampled from, but the whole track has this great moody mod jazz vibe...

Bullet : Contract Man

This is from the soundtrack Bullet did for "The Hanged Man" on Contour records... well worth the admission price if you can turn up a copy...

(Various) : Games

This "Games" tune is from the obscure Octopus italian library music label, and not much is known about it...

The Bobby Hughes Combination : Sahara '72

1966, or 2006? Gee I'm not sure, especially with this tune blaring in the background...

Gabor Szabo : Walking On Nails

Bernard Purdie makes a guest appearance on this Sitar-y track, with Gabor himself on vocals...
